We are fortunate to have a beautiful churchyard. Being so ancient there's a higgledy-piggledy mix of tombstones and graves, some very old, others more recent, and, since we're on top of a rise, there's a beautiful view from the south porch that stretches across the graveyard down to glimpses of the River Thames. It's a haven of peace and tranquility at the heart of Southchurch.

As for so many churches, there have been times in the past when our churchyard has looked a little unkempt, but now major improvements are taking place, thanks to our doughty band of Churchyard Volunteers.

They are a group of local volunteers motivated by a shared interest in improving and evolving the churchyard around The Holy Trinity Church, for the benefit of our wildlife, and for the enjoyment of the local community, and visitors.
Our group is a friendly one, and volunteers lend their time, skills, and occasionally their gardening tools on a casual basis. Fuelled by tea, coffee, and biscuits we aim to incrementally improve the churchyard over time.
We have a Community Gardening day on the first Wednesday of every month, starting at 09.00, with tea/coffee at 11.00... so please come along, even if its just for a cuppa and a chat. Everyone and anyone is very welcome.

Our latest project is the creation of a wildflower meadow - for the full story see the latest Churchyard Volunteers Update below. For more information email by clicking here or, better still, join us on a Wednesday morning.
