Hello to you all!
In this challenging and socially distancing time it may be some time before I get to meet you all in person. So thought I’d say hello and introduce myself briefly via the written word!
I do hope this doesn’t come as a shock that I am your new curate. The announcement was made on the Sunday before lockdown and it may be that some of you were already isolating and have not heard that you will be getting me as a curate.
My name is Trudy Arnold and I will be with you for my curacy training under Father Reid. I will be serving as a self-supporting minister, and as such it is not a full time post. My Ordination is due to be September 12th. I say due to be because nothing at this time is guaranteed due to the pandemic.
I am married to Richard and we live in Benfleet. I have two married step sons, Stephen and Darrell and four grandchildren, Jake, Myah, Elouise and Lennard. I am a keen gardener, enjoy baking and co-founder of an amateur drama group on Canvey Island – I have enjoyed treading the boards as well as all backstage roles since I was 12.
I am born and bred Canvey Island which was my home for 40 years before moving to Benfleet. I still spend much of my time there as most of my family and friends still live there. Even though I moved I remained with the Parish of Canvey Island which has been my church home since I was a child. For the last five years I have been the Licensed Lay Minister, a role that has prepared me well for that of Ordained Minister.
I am very much looking forward to being with you for my curacy and working with Father Reid and all of you to share the love of God and the Good News of Jesus throughout the Parish. There is still much for me to learn which I will eagerly embrace. To begin with this will be very different than those before me have encountered. It may be some time before I get to meet all of you due to the current pandemic and some time before I can get to know the wider Parish due to the constraints placed on us all at this time. However, I look excitedly towards meeting you all at some point, which with God’s grace will be sooner rather than later.
Take care, stay safe and alert
