January Letter in 'Trinitas'

Please read below for the January 2020 letter, written by Fr Reid Humble, in our monthly parish magazine, Trinitas.

Dear Friends,

I sincerely hope that you are having a blessed Christmas season and a Happy New Year! I would like to say thank you to everyone in the parish for making my first Advent and Christmas such a wonderful time. Especially, to everyone who pitched in to help in many ways throughout the busyness of the season. I am truly grateful for your support and encouragement. I hope and pray that the season was as much of a blessing to you as it was for me.

This time of year is often full of excitement and hope for the future. Many people use this time of year to reflect on what has happened in the past and celebrate with friends and family. Along with celebrating what is good in our lives, many make New Year’s resolutions determined to improve something about themselves. It may be something as simple as reading a book a month or spending more time to enjoy a hobby. Ultimately, New Year’s resolutions are about the transformations of ourselves. They express the desire to be different tomorrow than we were yesterday.

As we look to the future and all the possibilities of the New Year, it is good for this season of Epiphany to guide our way. During Epiphany we reflect on the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, in the visit from the Magi. We also reflect on Simeon and Anna’s recognition of Christ when he comes to be presented in the Temple according to the Law of Israel. During this season we are invited to reflect on the manifestation of Christ to the whole world as he is both ‘a light to lighten the Gentiles’ and ‘the glory of God’s people Israel’. Through all of this we are reminded that it is by the work of God in Christ that we, and the whole creation, are transformed. So, let us all seek Christ, first and foremost, as we make our plans for the coming year.

May you be blessed with the manifestation of Christ’s glory in all you do this Epiphany, and in the year to come.

Fr. Reid
