As most will have realised, we are not talking about Fr Frank’s age, which will remain one of life’s mysteries, but rather the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest in June 1994.
Due to baptisms the week before, the nearest Sunday we could get to the actual anniversary was Sunday the 30th June when the surprise celebrations were planned. The first Fr Frank became aware that something was afoot was when our choir sang two pieces to mark the occasion, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, by Johann Sebastian Bach and The Call, a poem by George Herbert, set to music by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Neither was announced but both were performed superbly. A large greetings card packed with messages of congratulations and thanks was then presented to Fr Frank by Fr Chris on behalf of the parish.
After the service the normal refreshment choice of tea and coffee was augmented by the addition of flutes of Cava, of which copious quantities were consumed. Sadly, or perhaps fortuitously, we have now run out of events to celebrate by popping the corks for a short while at least……
