Trinity Sunday this year was particularly special as it marked the retirement of Philip Overman after 7 years as Churchwarden, and after many more as Treasurer. Philip's contribution to the life and well-being of our church over a long period of time has been significant and he will be greatly missed.
The occasion was marked during the 9.30 service by a presentation to him of a framed and inscribed photograph of the church, a thank you card signed by the congregation, together with a quantity of vouchers for the Cliffs Pavilion & Palace Theatre, and some book tokens. As any current or past churchwarden, treasurer or their spouses will freely testify, these roles are very time consuming and demanding which requires the patience and understanding of the spouses in equal measure. To thank her for putting up with Philip's regular absences on church business, a presentation was also made to Faith Overman of a basket of flowers.
Following the service, the usual supply of tea and coffee was supplemented by several bottles of bubbly to mark the occasion. Everyone seemed to leave happily afterwards and there have been no reports since of any slips, trips or hangovers suffered as a result of the celebrations!
